  • tagged by the company as the future ball carrier for the organization

Rising Star

  • a natural leader who needs rounding out to move up to a destined position

(Briefly) Off Course

  • the promising executive who hit a rough patch, while roaring up the ladder met their match, and hasn't gotten over it

Rough Diamond

  • obvious strengths - and corresponding weakness. Superiors say "Could go a long way if only..."

Politically Naive

  • strong technically, but hasn't broken the corporate code. An unskilled overly-direct soul who can't figure out why the system won't work in their favor

Mid-life Crisis

  • a past performer who has lost the thread, is demotivated, in trouble at home, distracted, distant but very much worth saving

Topped-out Driver

  • a hard-edge achiever who got a wake-up call. The one people don't want to work for or with. Not promotable right now but salvageable.

One More Strike...

  • the one who has soiled the nest, broken trust, crossed peers once too often, and is in the final boarding process. Mistakenly, often thought of for coaching first, because management is really looking to create a soft exit.
