The Course of Coaching: What
can be expected?
An opening: the candidate has never had someone of this depth and range to trust with the real issues being faced in business, and confesses the reality of their situation. A deep understanding of the person in career context emerges, one unattainable within the walls of the corporation. A clean statement of who the candidate is and what they are trying to accomplish in their business life is created, resulting in a refreshing perspective and renewal of purpose. A return to the situation with new eyes, supplemented with additional acuity from the coach, allows the person to see where they really stand, what they must do, how they can be equipped to do it. Now the candidate is ready to respond to and deal with the real challenge. A determined, relentless but compassionate shepherding of the candidate through the real issues, learning and applying directly new means, growing all along the candidate's confidence and belief in capability while retaining a link to the discovered self in business. Defeating challenges, one by one, so that the candidate emerges into their true potential, validating management's faith and justifying the effort and cost expended by the company, candidate and coach.
